AASHE Updates

Something I’ve really appreciated during the experience of doing STARS is the ability to communicate with other institutions about their experiences and troubles with filling out the rating. Both face-to-face and over the web, STARS has been a catalyst for communication between Sustainability Directors and students across campuses. We’ve met students working on STARS from UMass Amherst and a director from Clark who are having some of the same challenges obtaining information about out campus as we are. These challenges are exciting; as Hannah said, it feels like we’re detectives, unearthing facts about Smith College we never even knew about. Without this opportunity to complete our application I wouldn’t have ever learned many things about the college including the fact that all computers that the college purchases are required to be EPEAT Gold Rated or that the showers in the basement of Ford are intended for bicycling commuters!
